Recently, I was asked to review a Successful Mobile Website Design from one of the top UK mobile websites. My assessment was that it did not meet the criteria set out in my recent article on the subject. This is mainly because it fell short of meeting its key performance indicators (KPI) when it was released. Its lack of KPI success is significant and its use as a business mobile app should be considered very carefully.
The first thing that I would look at when evaluating any mobile website design is its KPI. By KPI, I mean the number of downloads or page views for each mobile device over a specified time period. Many Companies have very low KPI, but its downloads per month far outstripped the other companies in the competition. It is therefore no surprise that its KPI was quite high. Its second most important indicator, downloads per day, was far higher than any of the competitors. Again, this is not a surprise as many businesses will have a high number of downloads over a short period of time, Successful Mobile Website Design.
So, what does this all mean for a mobile website design? If your objective is to measure your success and track progress against your competitors then you need to look very carefully at the criteria set out in my previous article. This is because many of your competitors will have achieved success through robust and innovative mobile website design. You should therefore avoid sites with excessive similarities to other well-established sites. If you can build a site that is truly innovative and different then you are likely to score a lot higher. One example of such a site; although it was not originally conceived as a mobile website, its innovative approach has certainly helped it achieve success.
